A Brief History Of Our Church
Victory Free Will Baptist Church came into being as a result of a burden of a few people in the summer of 1956. They held in-home prayer meetings until February 3, 1957 when the VFW Hall in North Kansas City was rented for services.
The church was organized by the Central Western Association of Free Will Baptists and the Missouri Free Will Baptist Home Mission Board on March 28, 1957 with nine charter members.
Rev. R. B. Spurgeon was called as the first pastor. During his tenure the church bought a building at 3025 Jaudon in Avondale and moved there in 1958.
Rev. Glenn Rehkob served as the second pastor of the church. His tenure lasted from 1960 until 1967.
Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Thompson, beginning in 1967, the church again bought land and built the present building. Victory held its first service in this new building on August 17, 1975.
In July of 1979, Rev. Timothy W. Eaton became Victory's 4th pastor.
With the resignation of Bro. Eaton, Rev. Mark H. Braisher was called to the pastorate of the church in September of 1986. Bro. Mark had served as Victory's youth pastor under Bro. Eaton. In 1987, the building indebtedness was retired. In 1991 projects were started to pave the parking lot, purchase a new sound system and finish the Sunday School classrooms and fellowship hall.
December 15, 1996, the church called Rev. Reed Resinger as its 6th pastor.
Rev. Dan V. Minkler became Victory's 7th pastor on September 6, 1998. Rev. Minkler's son, Marcus was also hired as the youth pastor for the church.
Following the resignations of both Dan and Marcus Minkler and their returns to California, the church hired Rick Cawthon as youth pastor. The church also called Rev. John P. Copeland to become her 8th pastor on on September 8, 2002.
On February 22, 2004, Rev. James K. Mitchell became Victory's 9th pastor.
Victory's current pastor, Rev. Kevin D. Williford, assumed the pastorate of the church on September 24, 2006. Bro. Kevin accepted the pastorate just over 10 years after he had initially interviewed with the church for the position of youth pastor after graduating from Bible college. His wife's grandparents were also former members of the church.
